What PC is and when to use it

Polycarbonate combines strength, impact resistance and heat resistance better than any other unfilled material we print. It is used for functional parts that have to take real loads, knocks or heat.

It is also the most demanding of the unfilled materials: it must be dried thoroughly and printed hot, in an enclosure. The P1S heated bed reaches 100 °C, the lower end of PC's recommended bed range, so we review the geometry of large, flat PC parts for warping before quoting.

Choose it when

  • The part must survive impact and heat
  • You need more strength than PETG or ABS
  • Jigs and fixtures that see daily handling

Avoid it when

  • Large, flat parts with tight flatness requirements (ask us first)
  • Cosmetic parts where PLA or PETG would do
